Etsy Fees Explained

What are Etsy's fees?

Etsy charges sellers several types of fees for each listing and sale. The main fees are: a flat listing fee, a percentage-based transaction fee on the sale, a payment processing fee for Etsy Payments, and an optional offsite ads fee when Etsy promotes your listings on Google, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest.

How much does it cost to list an item on Etsy?

Etsy charges a flat $0.20 USD listing fee for each item you publish. The listing stays active for four months or until the item sells, whichever comes first. When an item sells (or renews), another $0.20 listing fee is charged. This fee applies regardless of whether the item sells.

How is the Etsy transaction fee calculated?

Etsy charges a 6.5% transaction fee on the total amount the buyer pays — that means the item price plus the shipping amount charged to the buyer, plus any gift wrapping fees. The transaction fee is applied to the full sale amount, not just the item price. This is why it's important to account for shipping when calculating your true profit margin.

What is the Etsy payment processing fee?

If you use Etsy Payments (which is required in most countries), Etsy charges a payment processing fee of 3% of the total sale amount plus $0.25 USD per transaction. The exact percentage varies by country — in the US it's 3%, in the UK it's 4% + £0.20, in Canada it's 3% + $0.25 CAD, etc. This calculator uses the US rate by default.

What is the Etsy Offsite Ads fee?

Etsy automatically advertises listings on external platforms (Google Shopping, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Bing) through its Offsite Ads program. If a buyer clicks one of these ads and purchases within 30 days, Etsy charges an offsite ads fee of 15% of the order total. Sellers whose shops earned $10,000 or more in the past 365 days pay a reduced rate of 12%. Shops that have made less than $10,000 can opt out; shops over that threshold are required to participate.

How do I calculate my profit on Etsy?

To calculate your true net profit per sale: start with the sale price, then subtract your listing fee, transaction fee, payment processing fee, any offsite ads fee, your actual shipping cost (even if you charge the buyer for shipping), and your item or material cost. This calculator does all of that automatically. For pricing products to hit a target profit margin, try the Etsy Profit Calculator.

Are Etsy fees the same in all countries?

The listing fee ($0.20) and transaction fee (6.5%) are the same worldwide, though they're charged in your listing currency. The payment processing fee varies by country — this calculator uses the US rate (3% + $0.25). If you're in another country, check Etsy's fees page for your specific rate.
